"Dutch Rare Groove"
Various Dutch Artists
released 2005
Supertracks Records

Dutch Rare Groove is a project initiated by Black Market Audio. While researching Dutch audio archives they found several real gems. Together with funkjournalist Sjeng Stokking Bert en Arjo compiled CD1, which contains 23 soul'n'funk songs from The Netherlands (they are really "rare"!). Who knew that directors/arrangers like Jerry van Rooyen and Rogier van Otterloo created funky beats and freaky crime-jazz? Who knew that hippie art duo Seemon & Marijke sounded so funky together with Booker-T and Graham Nash? Marva Hodge and The Free are rare soul giants. Casey and Fred van Zegveld make their Hammond sound like Mohawks/Hawkshaw. Groovy keyboard and wah-guitar sounds by Rob Franken and Dave Pike Set (all Dutch backing and composition!) are great and Big John Russell's "Funky Amsterdam" is a Discofunk-a-la-Dutch anthem!
On CD2 are 10 interpretations by C-Mon & Kypski.
